Butterflies for Africa is a tropical butterfly centre offering butterflies and a whole lote more! The complex houses a walk-through Butterfly House (housing both exotic and indigenous butterflies), Butterfly Theme Store, Art Gallery, Coffee Shop, Nursery and a Butterfly Garden planted with a large range of butterfly foodplants.
The Prime attraction of Butterflies for Africa is the impressive walk through butterfly house where visitors are able to come into close contact with butterflies from around the world as they fly freely in an attractive, lush environment. It provides the perfect home for both international and indigenous butterflies and has already become a prime tourist attraction for the region, while serving as a valuable educational tool and vital conservation asset.
Guides are available at all times to assist you at no extra charge. A walk through the tropical Butterfly House takes one into a fantasyland – where beautiful butterflies from across the world fly freely in a spectacular display of colour. Also inside the Butterfly House is our Monkey House, as well as Green Iguana and Stick Insect Enclosures.
Because most of our butterflies and other creatures come from warm tropical regions the butterfly enclosure is warm and humid especially on hot days. We do have fans operating in summer and you’re welcome to use your tickets to enter the butterfly house as many times as you like on the day of purchase.
Butterflies for Africa has a family of Cotton-top Tamarin monkeys as part of a breeding programme. The enclosure enables guests to interact with the monkeys during guided tours on certain days at 11:30 and 13:30 (subject to change).
The Painted Lady Coffee Bar is the ideal venue for enjoying a cup of tea or coffee or an appetising lunch either with friends and family or on your own. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available. There is a wide range of hot drinks (including excellent coffees) as well as a variety of cold drinks such as smoothies, milkshakes, fresh fruit juice and carrot juice to choose from. The cakes and muffins are freshly prepared in our kitchen.
Lunches are attractively presented and include bagels, with a wide variety of fillings, cheese melts, salads, quiches, toasted sandwiches, soup and daily specials. Curries, oxtail, chicken dishes, open sandwiches and pancakes are just some of the specials you will find on the board. Vegetarians and children are catered for. We also do platters for finger lunches for business and board meetings. Our children’s party packs are very popular and we also do butterfly and caterpillar birthday cakes.
