The Umgeni Steam Railway, which departs from Kloof Station, offers some of the most scenic day trips by train in South Africa. Run on the last Sunday of every month, the Inchanga Choo Choo chugs through the scenic Valley of a 1000 Hills from Kloof Station through Botha’s Hill all the way to Inchanga Station where the Inchanga Conservancy run a craft market including food vendors, jumping castle, and pony rides for the kids. There is also a picnic area under a tree with tables and chairs.
Refreshments are available on the train.
Whilst at Inchanga please don’t forget to visit the Inchanga Railway Museum (reg. by the South African Museums Association).
